Edward Lambert was born in London in 1951 and studied music at Oxford and composition under John Lambert at the Royal College of Music. He began professional life as a pianist and conductor in Germany and on returning to England worked on the music staff of various opera companies - including the Royal Opera House to which he was attached for several years.

He has written a variety of instrumental and vocal works and a chamber opera: recent pieces include works for orchestra, three string quartets and pieces for choir, including some for liturgical use. He has been involved in much education work, helping schools and communities to create their own operas, and has written music for theatre and television.
